Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 2000) is an American singer-actress whose career spans over 40 years. London, a torch singer loved for her smooth, melodic singing voice and her smooth, languid contralto was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955 and 1969. Her performance of "Cry me a river" the track she introduced on her debut album was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to her music-related recognition, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's acting career of 35 years began in film in 1944. It featured roles in the lead female in a variety of westerns. She signed a recording deal with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the beginning of her professional career as a musician. She released her final studio album in 1969, but continued to have success as the role of a female nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) She was with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
